Schengen visa is a special instrument which certain travelers, nationals of certain countries, need to have in order to be allowed entry into the Schnegen visa area.

Schengen area is a geographic area in Europe consisting of most European countries. Among the 25 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and others. Schengen does not include Norway, Iceland, UK, and Ireland.

Schengen visa and 90 days

schengen visa Schengen visa allows the holder to a total stay of up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. Schengen visa can be issued in four types. Schengen visa A for airport transit, Schengen visa type B for transit, Schengen visa type C for tourism, and Schengen visa type D for work and other long stays. The Schengen visa C is most commonly used one.

Schengen visa multiple entry

Schengen visa is available as single or multiple entry visa. With multiple entry Schengen visa, you may leave and return any number of times within the 180-day period. The condition that the combined stay within the region must not total more than 90 days remains.

Where to apply for Schengen visa

If you need Schengen visa, you need to apply at the embassy or a consulate in your home country. A Schengen visa must be applied in person. It can not be requested by mail.

How long it takes for Schengen visa

It takes some 2 to 10 working days to get a Schengen visa for short-term stays. Processing time may be up to several months for long-term residence permits or visas for employment.
